Reading to Enhance Self-Regulation Tasks

With young children going to school as young as three and four years old, it is imperative that children be taught self-regulation skills at a very young age. Reading to Enhance Self-Regulation Tasks (REST) is  a reading approach that any parent, educator, counsellor, or older sibling can learn.  The approach is based on brain science, and focuses on how to maximize the understanding of facial expressions (eyes, eyebrows and mouths) and how to teach children to maximize a larger vocabulary of feelings words. This approach can be taught in three to four sessions and uses regular picture books.  All you need is a willingness to learn and everyone in the family benefits!
